P2 Fe 16 Hurling Championship 2017-08-15 11:01:00

Shandrum proved too strong for Inniscarra in the P2 Fe 16 Hurling Championship at Mallow on Wednesday evening. In an evenly contested match Inniscarra led by  2  -  7  to  1  -  7 at half time but struggled in the second half to get scores, but still found themselves just two points in arrears with three minutes of normal time remaining. Some goal chances presented late in the second half but apart from a 65 which Padraig Holland sent all the way to the net, none other were converted and Shandrum finished the stronger side scoring a goal and three points in the last five minutes. Inniscarra made a good start to the game - Mark Buckley won the throw-in and drove at the defence to force a 65 which Padraig Holland converted. A foul on Dylan Colgan resulted in a free which Padraig Holland took quickly and billowed the back of the net. The impressive Sean Sheehan and Jack O'Sullivan combined to get the ball to Stephen Linehan for his first point. Fergal O'Leary scored a long range point after good work by Sean Leisk and then Peter Sheehan sent a long ball from defence to Fergal O'Leary who passed to Stephen Linehan for his second point. Fergal then scored his second point after good defensive work by Eoin O'Herlihy and Colin O'Leary. A long puck out was brilliantly caught by Fergal O'Leary and his delivery set up David Kiely for a brilliant goal. Inniscarra were now playing very well and Colin O'Leary passed to Stephen Linehan for his third point before Darragh Murphy forced a 65 which Padraig Holland converted. The second half into the wind was a struggle for Inniscarra particularly as Shandrum got a goal and point just after the restart. Ronan Twomey as impressive in defence in this half but scores were hard to come by and all Inniscarra scores in this half came from four frees by Padraig Holland and the aforementioned 65 which went all the way to the net. With Shandrum (a combination of Newtownshandrum and Dromina) scoring freely in the last few minutes goalkeeper Evin Cunningham made one superb save to prevent a certain goal.  Final score  INNISCARRA  3  -  11,  SHANDRUM  4  -  15.

Scorers,  Padraig Holland  2  -  6,  Stephen Linehan  0  -  3, David Kiely  1  -  0, Fergal O'Leary  0  -  2.
