FE 12 FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL 2017-11-15 16:00:00

FE 12 FOOTBALL LEAGUE FINAL INNISCARRA 6 - 10, MALLOW 3 - 6.

In a very entertaining game of football played in Ballyanly on Sunday morning, Inniscarra were victorious against a strong Mallow side. Inniscarra laid the foundation for victory in the first half playing with a slight wind.  They built an unassailable lead with Conor Geoghegan at full forward the star man - laying on scores for other players with his unselfish play. Mallow were first to score with a point straight from the throw-in but then Inniscarra took over. Conor Geoghegan set up Luke Walsh for the first point. A good block down by Luke resulted in Mallow fouling the ball and Michael Murphy pointed the free. A good pass by Conor to Jack O'Callaghan led to a point by Daniel Murphy. Excellent defending by Adam Doyle resulted in a long range shot which ended in the net off the post. The hard working Luke Walsh then scored a lovely point before Liam Leisk had a shot on goal which was finished to the net by Conor Geoghegan. Excellent skill by the impressive Michael Murphy picked out Conor and his pass to Liam Leisk resulted in another goal. Liam Leisk then set up Daniel Murphy for another point. Captain Ciaran Desmond’s good clearance found Jack O'Callaghan and he passed to Michael Murphy for another excellent point. Conor Geoghegan then scored two excellent points after a one two with Odhran Lynch before Conor set up Odhran for another excellent goal. A foul on Donal Dineen resulted in Jack O'Callaghan pointing the free to leave Inniscarra in a commanding position at half time leading by 4 - 9 to 0 - 1.

The second half was always going to be about the defence with the wind increasing in strength and this Inniscarra defence wasn't found wanting. Mallow scored a goal and two points within a few minutes but a superb save by goalkeeper Sean Linehan was cleared by Ross O'Donovan to Sean Connolly onto Donal Dineen who was fouled and the quick free found Liam Leisk who sent an unstoppable shot to the net. Mallow responded with a goal and two points but again great defending by Tadhg O'Keeffe and Tadhg Lyons cleared the ball to Adam Doyle who found sub Ciaran Gould with his pass reaching Conor Geoghegan and he picked out Liam Leisk for another great goal. With the clock ticking down Mallow tried valiantly to rescue the game but the Inniscarra defence stood firm with Tadhg O'Keeffe ,Tadhg Lyons and Ross O'Donovan clearing repeatedly and wing backs Ciaran Desmond and Sean Connolly working tirelessly. Callum Larkin cleared to Con O'Mahony who combined with Ryan O'Connell to pick out Luke Walsh and he scored Inniscarra’s final point. Dylan Costello and Joe Hayes also worked hard when introduced.
