FE-14 HURLING 2020-09-11 18:33:00

At Ballyanly on Sunday evening, Inniscarra lost to Douglas in the semi final of the Rebel Og Fe 14 Premier 1 Hurling Challenge Cup. The scoreline doesnt do justice to the Inniscarra effort as this was a much closer contest and could easily have gone the other way if Inniscarra had converted more of their chances.  Inniscarra got the ideal start with a brilliant goal scored by Ben O'Connell after a good defensive clearance by Niall Buckley but then Douglas scored two goals and three points without reply. Inniscarra had some very good moves but failed to get scores at the end of them.  A good catch by Sean Murphy and a very good move involving Sean Linehan and Cormac Dineen got the ball to Ronan O'Keeffe who was fouled but Inniscarra failed to convert the free. A well taken line ball by Jonathan Pigott was picked up by Niall Buckley who found David Linehan in space with his pass reaching Ben O'Connell who scored a lovely point. A great ball by Aogan Quinlan reached Colman Aherne but his shot was deflected for a 65 which Niall Buckley pointed. Douglas then scored a goal and two points but a good block and clearance by Ben Gleeson reached David Linehan who got the ball to Sean Linehan who picked out Ronan O'Keeffe and his pass to Darragh O'Brien was flicked on to Cormac Dineen who scored a well deserved point.  Half Time  INNISCARRA  1  -  3,  DOUGLAS  3  -  5.

Inniscarra started the second half strongly with the introduction of Micheal Lyons having an immediate effect, the first ball reaching him from a very good clearance by Conor O'Sullivan resulted in a free which Darragh O'Brien pointed.  Darragh O'Brien then scored another point after good work by Aogan Quinlan and Ben O'Connell and a good run by Niall Buckley released Alex Neilon to score another point. Brilliant defending by Trevor O'Reilly got the ball to Blaine O'Farrell and his long ball into the forwards was caught by Micheal Lyons who was fouled and a penalty awarded which Niall Buckley expertly drove to the back of the net. Having trailed by eight points at the water break and at half time Inniscarra had the deficit now down to three points and the result was in the balance. Good work by Conor Earle and another good catch by Micheal Lyons after a great line ball by Niall Buckley resulted in another Darragh O'Brien point.  Inniscarra were now playing great hurling and well in control but failed to get any more scores against the Douglas packed defence.  Good work in defence by Trevor O'Reilly, Colman Aherne and Ryan Murphy got the ball to Conor O'Sullivan and his clearance was picked up by Darragh Lyons who was fouled but the free into the square was cleared and the final whistle went.  FINAL SCORE   INNISCARRA  2  -  7,  DOUGLAS  3  -  10.

  Scorers,Ben O'Connell  1  -  1,  Niall Buckley  1  -  1,  Darragh O'Brien  0  -  3,  Cormac Dineen  0  -  1,   Alex Neilon  0  -  1.
