Disappointment For Minor Footballers - Report by Jim O'Connor

INNISCARRA  1 - 14    AGHADA  3 - 12

At Carrigaline on Monday night under lights Inniscarra were agonizingly beaten by Aghada in the Rebel Og P2 Minor Football Championship.

Inniscarra started quite well and took the lead after 2 minutes with a point from Tomas O'Connor from a pass from Declan Hyland.  Dylan O'Sullivan followed with a point and then a superb goal fisted to the net following a driving run by Sean O'Donoghue. Points followed from Tomas O'Connor, Andrew McCarthy and a free from Sean O'Donoghue. A good move after 15 minutes led to an opportunity for Stephen Dornan but his shot struck the upright. By the 20th minute Michael Burke had to be replaced by Brian O'Mahony due to injury. Sean O'Donoghue then had 2 points in quick succession and Inniscarra led by  1-7 to 0-5 and with Aaron O'Raw, Andrew McCarthy controlling midfield and Stephen O'Brien superb at centre back Inniscarra were well in control.  Another 2 points from Tomas O'Connor and one from Padraig O'Donoghue had Inniscarra looking good for half time but Aghada struck for a goal in the 30th minute to leave the score at half time   INNISCARRA 1-9  AGHADA 1-6

Inniscarra started the second half brightly and Aaron O'Raw had a point before Tomas O'Connor had another after good work by Cillian Browne. Inniscarra then had to do some defending and Peter Worth, Adam Scott and Conor Barrett came to the fore. Two more points followed from Tomas O'Connor and Sean O'Donoghue and after 10 minutes of the second half the score was Inniscarra 1-13 Aghada 1-6. Aghada next scored 2 points and then a goal and suddenly all the momentum was with them and Inniscarra lost control of the game.  In the space of 15 minutes Aghada had scored 2 goals and 5 points without reply, their second goal from the penalty spot, which goalkeeper Sean Cronin had no chance with.  Inniscarra brought the score back to a 3 point game with a point from Tomas O'Connor but time ran out before they could get that elusive goal and in the end they lost by  1-14 to 3-12. This is not the end of the road however for this group of players and no doubt they will yet have a say in the outcome of the championship.
